Angela’s Coffee Lounge opens its doors to John Doe of Diss

A large area of flooring and furniture brought something new to the table with the launch of a cafe.
Angela’s Coffee Lounge opened in October at John Doe of Diss and has proven very popular.
The Sawmills Road store was founded by its namesake in 1983, with humble beginnings as a small carpet store.
The new café is named after John’s wife, Angela, who was instrumental in the growth of the business.
Although the couple are still involved, the couple have passed the reins to their sons Edward and Charles and their grandchildren Nathan, Megan and Charlie.
The Doe family decided to start their own cafe on the first floor, accessible by lift if necessary, in order to branch out.
Alison Davies, coffee shop manager, said: “They saw the need for it as a lot of carpet and furniture companies tend to have their own coffee shop.
“They saw an opportunity to cater to the needs of people at this end of Diss and it’s a little different to the cafes in town – we also have free parking.
“Everything is locally sourced, brewed and cooked here, including beer from the Ampersand brewery across the road in our Rarebit sauce.”
It offers a range of breakfasts, lunches and cakes, with more to come in the coming months.
The menu includes sausage rolls, scones, bacon and sausage baps, omelets, grilled and regular sandwiches and homemade soup, as well as meals for smaller children.
It also caters to dietary needs, including gluten-free and vegan, with coconut and oat milk available as alternatives to its coffees.
Ms Davies added: “We’re already seeing returning customers and we’ve also just had a five-star hygiene rating.
“The reaction has been very positive – people love the decor and comfy chairs and really love the cafe and restaurant quality of the food.
“I already have another cook from next week to meet demand.
“I’m so thrilled and it’s been an absolute team effort.”
Angela’s Coffee Lounge is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
