Brockton’s JJ’s Caffe to reopen this summer after COVID shutdown



BROCKTON – One of the area’s most popular restaurants, closed for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is planning its return.

JJ’s coffee recently announced that the restaurant will reopen this summer after closing last March near the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

And the restaurant says the reopening is now possible in large part thanks to the Small Business Administration’s Restaurant Revitalization Fund.

JJ applied for the federal grant in May.

“We didn’t want to be one of those restaurants that have closed their doors forever,” said owner and chef JJ Fernandes and his sons, managing directors Nelson and Nick Fernandes, wrote in an update on the restaurant’s website. “Imagine more hash bombs! Nightmare.”

The family said they checked their emails daily and waited for a response, which arrived recently. JJ’s Caffe had been accepted for the grant.

The grant will allow JJ to “update our concept a bit and implement new features such as online ordering, delivery, a glorious loyalty rewards program, birthday club and more.”
