LATAM Airlines World Elite Mastercard Review 2022 – Forbes Advisor

LATAM Airlines World Elite Mastercard* against LATAM Airlines Mastercard*

The LATAM Airlines Mastercard* is the no-annual-fee equivalent of the LATAM Airlines World Elite Mastercard*. It offers a much lower welcome bonus of 15,000 LATAM Pass miles after spending $1,000 in the first three months. Both cards offer bonus points in the same categories, although the no-annual-fee version offers 1 mile less per dollar spent, earning 3x miles on LATAM purchases, 2x miles in restaurants, and on rideshares, taxis, and rides. public transportation, and 1x miles on everything else.

The LATAM Airlines Mastercard* also allows cardholders to earn elite status based on credit card spend. The difference is that World Elite Mastercard holders earn qualifying points based on 20% of their credit card spend (excluding category bonuses), while LATAM Airlines Mastercard* holders get 10%.

The LATAM Airlines Mastercard* is better if you don’t want annual fees and slightly lower category bonuses. LATAM Airlines Mastercard World Elite* best suited for those looking for a higher welcome bonus, lounge benefits and annual upgrade vouchers.

LATAM Airlines World Elite Mastercard* vs Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card

The LATAM World Elite Mastercard and the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express card (conditions apply. See rates & fees) have a few things in common. Both cards are affiliated with SkyTeam alliance airlines and both have similar annual fees. The difference is that the Delta SkyMiles Gold card waives these fees in the first year and offers a much larger welcome bonus of 40,000 bonus miles after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months.

The Delta SkyMiles Gold card offers less generous tier bonuses, earning 2 miles per dollar on Delta purchases, at U.S. supermarkets and restaurants worldwide, including takeout and delivery in the U.S. and 1 mile per dollar on other qualifying purchases. However, the card compensates for this with travel benefits. Cardholders get their first checked bag free on Delta flights, which extends up to eight companions on the same reservation.

Cardholders also earn a $100 Delta Flight Credit after spending $10,000 in a calendar year, further justifying the annual fee. The 20% savings on inflight purchases completes a list of generous benefits missing from the LATAM Airlines Mastercard World Elite card*.

LATAM Airlines World Elite Mastercard* vs. Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard®*

The Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard® card* is another solid alternative if you want to earn miles within the SkyTeam Alliance. At $89 per year, the card offers lower annual fees and a hefty welcome bonus of 70,000 bonus miles, plus a bonus of 40 XP (experience points) after spending $2,000 or more in purchases within the first 90 days of opening your account. Plus, get a welcome bonus of 60 XP upon approval. The card lacks significant category bonuses, earning 3 Miles per $1 spent directly on purchases from Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and SkyTeam member airlines and 1.5 Miles per $1 spent on all other purchases . For some people, this can be more rewarding than the bonuses offered by LATAM and Delta cards.

KLM cardholders also earn 5,000 anniversary miles after spending just $50 and 60 XP points towards elite status upon approval. That’s 60% of the way to FlyingBlue Silver status, which isn’t bad for a credit card sign-up bonus.

Flying Blue is also one of the best foreign airline loyalty programs, offering benefits such as 21,000 miles of economy class tickets to Europe and North Africa and 29,000 miles of reward miles to Caribbean. Promotional rewards can help you get those flights even cheaper, with discounts of up to 50%.
