Popular downtown restaurant reopens after COVID outbreak – FOX13 News Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – A popular restaurant in downtown Memphis has reopened after being forced to close due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

With a slight increase in COVID-19 cases nationwide, this may not come as a surprise.

After days of closure, negative tests and a thorough cleaning, Rizzo’s was back up and running on Monday.

The restaurant hosted a private party on Monday, then scheduled to reopen to the public on Tuesday.

“We just looked at the menu and decided we were coming back for the brisket,” said tourist Bev Manson.

Bill and Bev traveled from Georgia to see Hamilton on Tuesday.

While in Bluff City, they said they were planning to eat at Michael Patrick’s Rizzo after seeing him on Diners, Drive-in and Dives.

“I’m happy to hear that its workers are safe and can reopen. I didn’t know they were closed, ”said Bill Manson.

Rizzo has temporarily closed its doors because some employees, including owner Michael Patrick, have tested positive for COVID-19.

“When something’s wrong like COVID, there’s a protocol, you shut down, you make sure everyone is testing,” Patrick said.

Patrick said during the shutdown they had to throw out over $ 900 worth of food.

“We were doing whatever it took, but with such a delicate virus – the host hops to host so quickly – it can be traded in a handshake,” said Patrick.

As COVID-19 cases start to increase nationwide due to the variants, Patrick urged the unvaccinated to roll up their sleeves.

“In all honesty, I feel pretty good. I think the vaccine and the booster really helped us, ”said Patrick.

This is news the Mansons were happy to hear.

“We’re not terrified of the whole COVID thing. We have the impression that with vaccines and masks, people are very safe. And I’m sure if they’ve been closed for a few days they go above and beyond to make sure everyone is safe, ”Manson said.

Rizzo’s reopens to the general public on Tuesday.
