Sugar Factory’s huge King Kong Sundae.

San Antonio may be known for its spicy salsa and micheladas, but New York’s Sugar Factory bets residents and visitors alike have a sweet tooth, too.

The celebrity-endorsed chain that specialized in over-the-top milkshakes and other high-glucose treats — opened its long-awaited location at The Shops at Rivercenter, 849 E. Commerce St.

Though Sugar Factory’s hallmark is its Instagram-worthy treats, the 7,900-square-foot River Walk restaurant also offers a full menu for brunch, lunch, and dinner.

Sugar Factory identifies itself as an “American Brewery,” according to the chain’s website. However, the range of cuisines on the menu includes not only French soups and crepes, but also Asian-inspired stir-fries and a pasta section.

An option that might be considered more “American” includes the 24K Gold Burger meal, which is “dripping” in 24k gold leaf and served with gold-dusted fries.

Nothing says “America” ​​like excess, after all.

Of course, if you’re visiting a place called Sugar Factory, you’re probably looking to indulge in some high-calorie treats, which this new restaurant has in spades. Milkshakes — including those of the “crazy” variety, topped with whole slices of cheesecake and seven-layer s’mores — abound.

However, none are as cariogenic as the King Kong Sundae. The massive dessert contains 24 scoops of ice cream, an entire box of whipped cream, nuts, cakes, sprinkles, M&M’s, four waffle cones, three unicorn lollipops, pretzels and an array of candies. The concoction costs $99 and serves a dozen people.

Watch out for your eyebrows though. The sugar-stuffed monstrosity is also festooned with sparklers.

Sugar Factory’s menu also includes celebrity-developed alcoholic beverages such as 50 Cent’s Candy Shop, made with Branson Cognac, and Mario Lopez’s Monster Hurricane, which features Casa Mexico Silver Tequila.

The San Antonio sugar factory outpost features outdoor seating and retail space featuring more than 50 types of candy, showcased in the iconic floor-to-ceiling display wall of the chain.

The restaurant is open Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to midnight.
